I was a competitive long distance runner since I was 14 years old placing 11th at the High School National Cross-country Championship at age 17. I ran cross-country and track on a scholarship at Wake Forest University studying physical education and receiving my teaching certification. I came to HRC Fitness in the Fall of 1986.
I enjoy cross-training, running, weight-training, downhill skiing, x-c skate skiing and snowboarding. Lorrie has taught at HRC for 31 years.
My philosophy is to work to balance your diet, your flexibility and your strength.
In our training sessions you will learn how to move your body and lift weights in correct alignment. You will also learn how to stretch and how to balance your diet and exercise routine.

I started an active lifestyle as early as t-ball and haven’t stopped since. I have my Dad to thank for that.
I grew up playing many sports such as baseball, football, wrestling and basketball. I also picked up many hobbies such as BMX, rollerblading, skateboarding and snowboarding. One day I was thinking about what I wanted to do with my life and it just kind of came to me.
I asked myself what am I good at and what do I enjoy:
The answers were getting results and helping others.

Being active has always been my way of life; one of my goals in life was to run long distances, but a back-injury I sustained in my early twenties had weakened my back muscles over the years. Refusing to let my injuries get the better of me, I started with low-impact workouts, and gradually got into a high-impact aerobics, kickboxing, with strength training. I was able to start with 5Ks and move on to half-marathons in no time.
That’s when I decided to play a more active role in the health and wellness field, and help others realize their true potential, because I know that there’s nothing impossible once you are committed to achieving your goals.
My personal training sessions integrate fitness training and nutritional guidance for weight loss, while building upon physical strength, and restoring balance and flexibility. I also work as a kickboxing instructor.

Although I played sports as a child, fitness is something I got into much later in life, as growing up I developed lower back problems that prevented me from partaking in physical activities.
After going through physical therapy, acupuncture, and massage therapy, I discovered the greatest medicine–exercise. Once I began consistently working out, my back problems became a thing of the past.
I strongly believe that exercise can do wonders for anyone and that it is never too late to start.
I play in Ultimate Frisbee pickups and tournaments and enjoy playing volleyball, hiking, kickboxing, and strength training.

As a diabetic, I too have had to overcome life’s challenges and decided to take control over my diabetes to strengthen my inner athleticism. The result of this journey over the years has ensured that I am committed.
I have dedicated my efforts to working closely with my clients, who include beginners as well as athletes with specific advanced training needs in achieving good personal health, and to embrace the power of fitness.

I have been a Certified Personal Trainer since 2011 because I wanted to pay my passion for fitness forward and help others get fit.
My continuing education has focused on a wide range of Fitness & Nutrition subjects including: knee injuries and rehabilitation, hip injuries & core stabilization, dynamic flexibility and injury prevention, High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) and cardio program development, Core Strengthening, Sports Nutrition & Nutrient Timing, and Chronic Pain Management & Nutrition.
Additionally, I’ve continued to grow an online business in order to reach more people and fulfill my purpose to help others. I host monthly online accountability groups which allows me to bring my knowledge to people who are either unable to join a gym, intimated by a gym setting or need more personal attention with one on one coaching.
